Home: Why elderly clothing?
We’re often asked why we wanted to make elderly clothing...
...and to be honest, I normally find this quite an unusual question! For anyone that’s either looked after an elderly family member or who is living with a disability would tell you, it’s well and truly time more people were making clothing for the elderly and disabled as our high street stores really do not meet their special needs!
Designed to Care grew as an idea after caring for my own Grandmother as she lived through Alzheimer’s Disease. It was during this time that I learned first-hand just how hard and distressing the simple act of dressing had become for Grandma and indeed her carers and that through ‘protecting’ her appearance, I was helping maintain her dignity.
In partnership with my husband, we designed our range of clothes to help not just the elderly battling diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Stroke, Arthritis and Parkinson’s but to also help the thousands of people living with physical disabilities or shorter term illnesses where adaptive clothing can make using wheelchairs, catheters or long hospital visits easier.
We’ve had a lot of support from our family and friends to launch this business and now over a year in, we’re so glad to be helping people – our customers kind words are so rewarding.
Please do take the time to browse our site and try our elderly clothing – they’re all beautifully made and the adaptations are discrete and really very easy to use. We’re sure they’ll make dressing and indeed, life easier for you, your family and carers.
